Artscape fortsätter att fira Göteborgs 400-årsjubileum genom att bjuda in Chicago-baserade konstnären Max Sansing till staden. Under första veckan av september kommer Biskopsgården få ytterligare ett verk när Sansing för första gången besöker Europa.
Verket blir det åttonde som Artscape producerar i Göteborg under jubileumsåret 2021 och möjliggörs genom ett stöd från Stenastiftelsen.
”Biskopsgården är ett område där få evenemang inom ramen för 400-årsfirandet äger rum. Ett större och mer uppseendeväckande konstverk i Biskopsgården kan både locka göteborgare att besöka stadsdelen och bidra till en samhörighetskänsla i området. Vi är väldigt glada för Stenastiftelsens stöd som gör detta möjligt”, säger Tor Hedendahl, en av grundarna för Artscape.
Daniel Wakeham, Artscapes andra grundare fortsätter: “Att få bjuda in Max Sansing känns stort. Han är en politiskt medveten konstnär som förenar symbolism, realism och starka färger på otroligt inspirerande vis och det kommer sätta Biskopsgården på den internationella konstkartan”
Max Sansing fick sin informella träning på Chicagos graffiti-scen och har sedan dess tagit en formell examen vid American Institute of Art och har förutom sina muraler visats på gallerier från Washington till Miami. Nu står Sjumilahallen vid Friskväderstorget på tur.
”Artscapes konst är gratis och tillgängligt för alla och genom konsten vill de inkludera och inspirera. Vår förhoppning är att den här satsningen kan bidra till stolthet och skapande av en positiv identitet för stadsdelen Biskopsgården. Detta är viktiga skäl bakom vårt beslut att stödja det här projektet. Jag ser verkligen fram emot att få se konstverket växa fram”, kommenterar Madeleine Olsson Eriksson, styrelseordförande Sten A Olssons Stiftelse för Forskning och Kultur.
Utöver Stenastiftelsen så görs konstverket möjligt med hjälp av Nordsjö Färg och Stavdal Lift.
Max Sansing to create Gothenburg’s next big mural
Artscape continues to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city of Gothenburg by inviting Chicago based artist Max Sansing to the city. During the first week of September the neighbourhood of Biskops gården will get yet another work to it’s collection when Sansing for the first time ever visits Europe.
The mural will become the eighth work produced by Artscape this year and is made possible by the support of Stenastiftelsen.
“Biskopsgården is an area where few of the events surrounding the 400th anniversary take place. A big and impressive work of art in the neighbourhood can both contribute new visitors as well as a sense of community in the area. We’re really grateful for the support of Stenastiftelsen making this mural possible”, says Tor Hedendahl, one of Artscape’s founders.
Daniel Wakeham, the other founder of Artscape, adds: “To be able to invite Max Sansing feels amazing. He is a politically conscious artist who unites symbolism, realism and expressive colours in a truly inspiring way and it will put Biskopsgården on the international art scene”.
Max Sansing received his informal training in the Chicago graffiti scene and has since then graduated from American Institute of Art and has, aside from his murals, had his work shown in galleries reaching from Washington to Miami. Next up: public sports centre Sjumilahallen on Vårväderstorget in Gothenburg.
“The art Artscape produces is free and available to all and through art their aim is to include and inspire. Our hope is that this joint effort will help to create a sense pride and positive identity in Biskopsgården. These are important reasons for the decision to support this work of art and I’m really looking forward to seeing it come to life”, comments Madeleine Olsson Eriksson, chairman of Sten A Olssons Stiftelse for Science and Culture.
